Subsequently, he became a career English instructor at the university level, teaching for 24 years in the UAE and Qatar. Much of Scott’s scholarship over the last 12 years has been focused on developing a clearer portrait of the Anglican chaplain and Bible translator Henry Martyn. In 2012, he delivered one of two lectures at St. John’s College reflecting on the 200th anniversary of the death of Henry Martyn. In 2019, Scott published The Letters of Henry Martyn, a collection of 327 of Martyn’s extant letters, including many published for the first time, with Boydell Press. At present, Scott is hard at work on a major biography of Henry Martyn.
