How Does a Christian Development Organisation Do Peacebuilding? Creating a Theological Framework

05 February 2019, 16:30 - 05 February 2019, 17:30 Lightfoot Rm, Divinity Faculty, West Rd, Cambridge, CB3 9BS

Speaker: Dr Hannah Swithinbank - Theology and Network Engagement, Tearfund.

In this paper Dr Swithenbank will reflect on how Tearfund, a Christian aid and development organisation, has been participating in peace building as a part of its work around the world in the last three years. The paper will discuss why and how the organisation sought to develop a theological framework for peace building as a part of the strategic development of this work, present some of the ideas that are included in the framework, and share some examples of how the framework shapes the organisation’s work in practice.

Hannah Swithinbank is Tearfund’s Theology & Network Engagement Manager. She is responsible for theological research, training and development with Tearfund’s staff and partners. Her main focus is on understanding the way that Christian ideas about justice and human flourishing relate to international development and humanitarian work.

Hannah is also a writer and historian, with a PhD in Ancient History from the University of St Andrews.
